The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will call for proposals within the next month from reputable welfare organisations on how best to manage and upgrade old age homes in the Northern Area.
Municipality spokesperson, Kupido Baron, says the facilities include Elizabeth Stuurman, Allan Hendrickse, Adcock and Bethelsdorp Old Age Homes.
He says Council yesterday approved the decision taken in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act that says Council must dispose of these facilities to institutions registered with the Department of Social Development.
A long term lease of 15 years will be awarded to the successful welfare organisation or organisations at the conclusion of the selection process.
