Easter Road campaign to be launched

The Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Weziwe Tikana is appealing to all road users to exercise extra caution on the road during the Easter Holidays.

Spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca, says this year's campaign will be under the national theme 'Together you can save millions'.

In the last festive season road safety campaign, the Eastern Cape Province managed to decrease road crashes by 50%, despite the increase in fatalities.

Kumbaca says the campaign will focus on improved visibility of law enforcement and road safety officials.

He says the department has allocated financial resources to pay overtime to ensure that traffic officers work 24 hours.

"It's all systems go from our side. We are going to be working with SAPS and emergency rescue service officials to make sure we are visible on our roads. We have new traffic vehicles, you will be seeing a traffic official every 30km of the road." says Kumbaca.
