Hosting the 2010 World Cup cost Nelson Mandela Bay R878.5 million.
A report to the Municipal Public Ac-counts Committee states that in terms of the agreement, national government was to have footed 70% of the bill, the Eastern Cape Government 20% and the municipality 10%.
However, it states, National Government provided R78.7 million less than had been agreed and the prov ince R459.2 million leaving the Metro with an additional bill of R537.9 million.
This was in addition to the R340.6 million that it paid as its 10% of the total costs.
