New, 24-hour night vision cameras have been installed by the Buffalo City Municipality along the North East Expressway in East London.
Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya, says this is an attempt to reduce accidents and ensure that motorists exercise caution.
He says speeding cars can be detected from a distance away and use radar to pick up speedsters.
Ngwenya says three sets of night-vision cameras will be installed across Buffalo City Metro while additional preventive measures to curb speeding will also be introduced.
According to the Metro, Gonubie main road, which is one of the busiest roads in the City recorded over 18 000 vehicles in the last financial year speeding.
The collision rate and severity of accidents in Gonubie have dropped ever since the installation of the upgraded cameras.
