The Democratic Alliance in Nelson Mandela Bay says Metro communications manager, Roland Williams, is likely to face suspension.
DA caucus leader, Leon de Villiers, says Williams will be informed on Wednesday about the Metro's plans to conduct a full internal investigation against him.
The probe relates to long-standing allegations related to the awarding of contracts to construct advertising gantries for the 2010 World Cup, but which only went up after the tournament.
The gantries have since been removed.
De Villiers issued the following comment.
"We welcome this investigation because I have repeatedly raised this matter at the municipal public accounts committee meeting where I can recall that on the 28th of October last year, the acting municipal manager Mr Hani withdrew the item from the impact agenda with the undertaking that he will investigate it internally and this is now obviously the outcome of that investigation"
