Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) says it is set to begin manufacturing Personal Protective Equipment at its East London Manufacturing Plant to assist in the fight against Covid-19.
MBSA says it will be making 3D printed recyclable plastic face shields for use in mass screening, clinics and hospitals.
Pending quality assurance regulatory approval, it will also manufacture and supply breathing aid devices for the Eastern Cape Provincial Department of Health.
MBSA CEO & Director of Manufacturing, Andreas Engling said the company saw a need to use its 70 years of manufacturing excellence to act in solidarity with the Eastern Cape provincial government and its people.
He expressed the hope that the devices MBSA produces will assist essential medical services personnel working on the front-lines.
He’s hopeful that the breathing support devices will assist coronavirus patients by keeping them out of intensive care and reducing the burden on public health facilities based in the Eastern Cape.
