Men convicted, 5 years after raping and killing Mossel Bay woman

Two men were sentenced for the rape and murder of a young woman in Mossel Bay in Regional Court on Thursday.
The incident occurred in 2009 and the case was at one stage also withdrawn.
The deceased, Sharron Josephs was raped and murdered five years ago in the Da Gamaskop area in Mossel Bay.
The two accused, the 33-year old Buyisile Gavani and the 28-year old Avela Monqasan were at a local shebeen the night of the incident.
Eye witnesses told the court how the victim was dragged by both arms into the bushes. Her body was later discovered by police.
The first accused was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for rape. The second accused was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for rape and 20 years
imprisonment for murder of which four years should be served concurrently.
This means that he was sentenced to effectively 28 years behind bars.
The deceased's family said that they can now carry on with their lives after the tragic loss of their daughter.
