Men arrested for transporting alcohol in East London

Alcohol valued at about R6 000 confiscated by East London police.

SAPS

Three suspects have been arrested after they were busted in East London for travelling with alcohol in the boot of their car.

Police Spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala says the Flying Squad and K9 Unit were patrolling the CBD earlier this week when they noticed a green Toyota driving recklessly in Union Street.

Police gave chase and when the driver refused to stop they shot out three of the tyres.

Mqala says the car then came to a complete standstill in Meki Street in Duncan Village.

She says the vehicle was searched and police found alcohol worth about R6 000 in the boot of their car.
The men, aged between 24 and 35 will appear in the East London Magistrates' court soon where they will be charged under the Disaster Management Act.

The sale and transport of alcohol is currently prohibited under Lockdown regulations.
