Knysna police are investigating following the discovery of human body parts in a bag.
A member of the public made the gruesome discovery in St George's Street in the town last weekend.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies says the medical waste bag was found on Saturday morning.
He says upon further investigation, it was established that a medical waste removal truck was parked in the central business district the previous night and some items were removed from the truck.
Spies says the truck left the town during the earlier hours of Saturday morning and is yet to be found.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
