The Eastern Cape Government will commemorate Freedom Day 2023 by marking 30 years since the passing of Umkhonto Wesizwe chief commander and freedom fighter, Chris Hani.
The event will take place at his birthplace of Sabalele Village, in the Chris Hani District Municipality.
The Office of the Premier says as part of honoring him, the provincial government has identified various projects in the area to provide support and contribute towards the development of the communities.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape will be hosting a Freedom Day commemoration lecture in Gqeberha on Thursday to celebrate 29 years of democracy in South Africa.
The party's Provincial Leader, Andrew Whitfield will deliver the lecture at the South End Museum in Nelson Mandela Bay.
He will be joined by the DA's Provincial Chairperson, Yusuf Cassim, PE Southwest Constituency Leader, Bobby Stevenson MPL, and Provincial Spokesperson, Georgina Faldtman.
Build One South Africa leader, Mmusi Maimane will also be in Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday to spearhead a Freedom Day march against the escalating crime levels in the metro.
Deputy Mayor, Khusta Jack, and several other political leaders and civil society organisations are expected to join him.
Build One SA says after 29 years of democracy, many communities still live in fear of gun violence.
The organistation has also condemned the mass killings that have become commonplace in Gqeberha.
