Eastern Cape police have started with an investigation into a freak accident which claimed the life of a mechanic who was working on a Greyhound bus at Stutterheim.
Police spokesperson, Captain John Fobian, says the bus was travelling from Bloemfontein to Port Elizabeth when it experienced mechanical trouble.
The driver proceeded to Stutterheim, where a mechanic from East London attended to the problem.
Fobian says he 50-year-old man was lowering a jack, when it gave way.
The bus fell on top of him - to the shock of passenger.
The driver and some of the passengers tried to free the man, but he died at the scene.
His name is being withed pending notification of his next-of-kin.
