Eastern Cape Community Safety MEC, Xolile Nqatha, has welcomed the arrest of the ex-wife of a Gqeberha doctor in connection with his murder.
Nqatha said she was among three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Dr Bantu Noqekwa, who was gunned down in his surgery in Zwide in May.
His former wife, Nothukela Ethel Noqekwa (46), appeared in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday following her arrest in Cape Town.
The case was postponed to 15 June, while the two other suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday.
Dr. Noqekwa was brutally killed on 3 May, when four gunmen entered his surgery and shot him dead.
In welcoming the arrests, MEC Nqatha said “those still on the run” that their days were numbered.
He also noted that the arrests were proof of what could be achieved if communities worked with the police.
