Eastern Cape Safety MEC, Helen Sauls-August, has welcomed the arrest of 5 police officers in an undercover drug bust in East London.
The Mdantsane crime prevention officers were arrested by the Hawks on Wednesday on charges of drug dealing and possibly one of racketeering.
Its alleged that they had raided drug dealers and then sold the seized drugs.
In a statement issued on Thursday, MEC Sauls August, said that she applauds the police for having the courage to arrest their colleagues, who are appearing in court.
The MEC's spokesperson, Lwandile Sicwetsha.
"The MEC has welcomed the arrested of these 5 cops. She wants this to be a strong message for all other members of the police that whoever compromises the integrity of the police services will be dealt with" he said.
