MEC condemns 'witchcraft' killings

Eastern Cape MEC for Social Development, Dr Pumza Dyantyi has condemned the recent spate of killings in the Province, as the country recently commemorated the 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children.

She says she is devastated to learn that two women were brutally killed near Mount Ayliff earlier this month, because of allegations of witchcraft.

MEC Dyanti also said that in another incident two sisters were murdered in their home in a village near Middledrift.

She says her department is providing psychological support to the families.

The MEC has called for action to root out the "scourge" of rape and the killing of women, especially the elderly, accused of witchcraft.
