Twelve people, including three children, were killed when a taxi overturned on the N1 near Touwsriver in the Hex River Valley in the Western Cape on Saturday morning.
Provincial Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa says the accident happened shortly after 3 am, when the driver of the minibus apparently lost control of the vehicle.
He says six men, three women, two boys and one little girl died at the scene.
Africa says ten people who were injured, were taken to a hospital in Worcester.
He urged motorists travelling long distances during the festive season to take regular breaks.
