Eastern Cape Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane says his office has concluded lengthy meetings with the Sterkspruit Civic association, traditional leaders, district and local municipalities.
This follows violent service delivery protests at Sterkspruit. Residents have been on a violent protest since September, vandalising businesses and burning tyres preventing access to the town.
Qoboshiyane says in a statement released late on Monday night that progress has been made in attending to the matters raised in the Memorandum sent to his office.
He says it was agreed that violent protests must come to an end with immediate effect and that children be allowed to go to school today without disruptions.
A task team has been set up and community members will also be allowed to go back to work without disruptions.
There was also an important need to restore the relationship between the South African Police Services and the local community for peace and stability to be the order of the day in Sterkspruit and surrounding communities.
