Eastern Cape Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane says a meeting to address violent protests in the Nelson Mandela Metro, was called off on Saturday, amid concerns for residents' safety.
He says his department will reconvene the meeting with the local community to address a number of issues.
Earlier, his spokesperson, Mvusi Sicwetsha, said Saturday morning's meeting was called off amid concerns around Qoboshiyane's safety.
The MEC was meant to address residents at Port Elizabeth's Chatty Hall, following violent protests in the area last week that had seen several homes torched.
