Eastern Cape Safety MEC, Helen Sauls-August, has called for the speedy arrest of the criminal who allegedly shot and killed a policeman this week.
Constable Xolisa Somana died after being shot by a robbery suspect at Willowvale on Monday.
His colleagues was unharmed.
Somana is the second Eastern Cape policeman to be killed in the line of duty in a week after a warrant officer Nelson Siganga was killed when he and three other colleagues were involved in a gunbattle with six robbery suspects at Nqeleni.
MEC Sauls-August says police should protect themselves when confronting dangerous criminals.
She called for the speedy arrests of the suspects in both cases.
National police commissioner, general Ria Phiyega, has also lamented the deaths of five police members killed on her brief watch.
