MEC calls for new economic growth path in Eastern Cape.

Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism MEC Mcebisi Jonas says the Eastern Cape needs a new economic growth path.

Sketching the challenges facing the province to stake-holders in Port Elizabeth on Thursday, he said the Eastern Cape had historically been on the margins of the economy and seemed unable to dent unemployment.

Jonas said there were encouraging signs that a more dynamic economy was emerging, and the challenge was how to build on these positive trends.

He said industry-government partnership and sensible instruments were required to reduce the cost of doing business in the Eastern Cape, accelerate the diversification of manufacturing and place a heavy focus on agro-processing.
