Mdantsane mom arrested for abandoning children to visit boyfriend

A Mdantsane woman has been arrested for allegedly neglecting her children.

Police Spokesperson Captain Nkosikho Mzuku says it is alleged that the 29-year-old mother of four, left her kids on the 7th of July and never returned.

The children, aged four, six, eight and nine, were left without food.

Mzuku says, as a result, the two children could not go to school as they were babysitting their siblings.

He says members of the community eventually intervened and reported the matter to social workers.

A case of neglect was opened at the Mdantsane police station and the mother was arrested on Sunday.

She is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
