Mdantsane boxer stripped of national title

Thembelani Nxoshe has been stripped of the SA flyweight title by Boxing SA after he failed a drugs test by The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport.

The test was done after his loss to Mexican Ulises Lara in a clash for the WBC International title, at the Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre near East London, on October last year.

Nxoshe won the South African flyweight title for the second time in September 2016 when he stopped Mfundo Gwayana in the sixth round in a clash for the vacant title and then made a successful defence against Xolisi Voyi on a majority decision. He has been fighting as a pro for 11 years and has a record of 19-8-2; 6.

After failing the drug test Nxoshe was suspended for six months. Since he had not appealed against the suspension and lodged an appeal disagreeing with the sanction which lapsed on March 8, his suspension became effective.

He will be suspended until the 13th of August and stripped of his title.

The title has now been declared vacant.
