Mazibuko labelled a 'coconut'

DA Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko was jeered and labelled a "coconut" - as unionists and teachers gate-crashed a protest march by the party on Friday demanding better education in the Eastern Cape.

The incident happened outside the offices of the provincial education department in Zwelitsha, King William's Town, where the DA's march soon erupted into chaos.

Sapa reports that Sadtu and Nehawu supporters wielded sticks and heckled Mazibuko and a group of 500 of her supporters.

DA spokesperson, Edmund van Vuuren says a charge of intimidation has been laid against the unions.

The march was meant to draw attention to the plight of some 4-thousand teachers who will lose their jobs next year if the provincial education department goes ahead with the planned cut in teaching posts.
