Mayor meets with farmers to discuss Rocklands issue

Facebook

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Eugene Johnson, has assured farmers around Rocklands in Kariega that there will be a serious intervention by the South African Police Service amid the ongoing protests in the area.

Johnson met with farmers in Rocklands on Monday night to discuss the ongoing protests by community members over service delivery.

Last Friday, the protesters set two vehicles alight and on Monday another truck was set alight while passing motorists were pelted with stones.

Johnson says several issues, including the closure of roads which affects farm production - and damaged electricity poles were discussed at the meeting held at Ankervas Primary School.

She says there will also be a Saps intervention at a provincial level.

The Metro says frustrated farmers promised to take matters into their own hands if the situation continued to escalate.

Not a single person has been arrested since the violent protests broke out last week.
