The total tourism turnover from the Ironman event in Port Elizabeth earlier this year was R62.8m.
That's according to a report to be submitted to Nelson Mandela Bay's sport, recreation, arts and cultural services Committee in August.
The figure is based on 46,515 bed nights and average spending of R1350 a day, the figure used by South African Tourism.
The report says there is an increasing number of participants in the event that is now in its eighth year with 1772 athletes having taken part this year compared to the 786 that entered in 2005.
