Massive search for PE girl reported missing, yields nothing

Port Elizabeth police, assisted by the police chopper conducted a massive search after a report was received about a school girl who was allegedly abducted by a man near a school in the northern areas.

Police spokesperson, Captain Alwin Labans, says police went out to contact all those who could assist with the inquiry.

He says a big crowd of around 400 people then gathered at the top of Gail Road and set fire to nearby bushes and began to protest.

Labans says police then went to the school to get the names of all the children who were absent.

He says they were all accounted for.

Labans also says that a foot and aerial search of nearby bushy areas, with the assistance of community members, yielded nothing.

He says police are not ruling out the possibility that a crime had been committed, but he says they did everything possible to establish credible information to support the allegation which emerged on social media.

Labans has appealed to the public, where possible, to provide concise information to them when dealing with such matters.
