Buffalo City Municipality has concluded an agreement with a Cape Town company for a massive housing development in Duncan Village.
City manager Andile Fani signed the deal on Friday with the ASLA Company for the delivery of "not less than 3000 units and not more than 5000 units over a period of 3 years."
Fani said a "Technical Task Team comprising of engineers and the project managers will be established and a political steering committee comprising affected ward councillors will play an oversight role. He also called for the project managers within BCMM's Human Settlement to make sure that there is robust social facilitation so that everyone is fully aware of what is to happen in Duncan Village."
According to a statement from Buffalo City, 'the first phase towards the realisation of this is to identify the parcel of land to temporary relocate people whilst the land they were occupying is further inspected for development. The other issue is the connecting bulk infrastructure which needs to be taken into consideration."
Buffalo City Municipality says a tender for the project was advertised and three bidders were shortlisted before Asla Group was awarded the tender.
