The Eastern Cape Transport Department says it will be overseeing several mass funerals following three major, recent accidents which claimed the lives of at least 34 people.
Department spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca, says the first of the mass funerals will take place on Wednesday at Seaview Junior Secondary School in Elliotdale for the six victims of an accident on the first of September.
He says the second mass funeral will take place on Saturday.
Kumbaca says the Road Accident Fund will be covering the cost of the funerals.
"We want to bring relief in this hour on need and make sure that we have all stakeholders to come and give the necessary support. The Road Accident Fund and Social Development are also on board to ensure that these people are laid to rest in a decent manner" he said.
