Manhunt underway for EC cash-heist suspects

Eastern Cape police are searching for three men involved in a cash-heist in Butterworth this week in which an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Ngcakani, says a fourth suspect, 28-year-old Nkosinathi Wolela, was wounded during an altercation with a security guard and is in hospital under police guard.

She said Wolela's arrest followed the robbery of the guard who was accosted by two men on Tuesday while exiting a store in Butterworth where they had collected cash.

She says the gunmen took the cash and fled.

Ngcakani says when the second security guard left the store he too was confronted by two men, including Wolela, who tried to disarm him.

She said in the ensuing struggle the guard managed to open fire, wounding Wolela while his accomplice fled.

His case came up in court on Wednesday in absentia and was postponed to 4 September.
