The grandson of former president Nelson Mandela is appealing against his fine and jail sentence following his recent conviction for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Mandla Mandela was sentenced on Wednesday to a fine of R10 000 rand or two years imprisonment.
However, an Mthatha magistrate has suspended two thousand rand of the fine for a year.
He was convicted in March of assaulting and pointing a firearm at school teacher Mlami Ngudle following an altercation in Mthatha in 2013.
The court is currently hearing his application for leave to appeal.
