Mandla Mandela has been granted leave to appeal against the sentence imposed on him on Wednesday by an Mthatha magistrate following his assault conviction.
He was sentenced to a fine of R10 000 or two years imprisonment.
R2000 of the fine was suspended for a year.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, says Mandela's bail of R 2000 was extended.
He lodged and application seeking leave to appeal both the conviction and sentence. The magistrate made a ruling that he can pursue his appeal on the sentencing but not leave to appeal the conviction. At the moment he is out on R2000 bail until he has exhausted his appeal to the higher courts." says Tyali.
