Mandela relatives and chiefs gather in Qunu

Close relatives of ailing former president Nelson Mandela and chiefs of the Abathembu royal family gathered at his home in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape, on Tuesday morning.

This followed an urgent call reportedly made by his children.

Among those who arrived at the homestead were Mandla, Thanduxolo, Ndaba and Ndileka Mandela.
Also there was chief Bhovulengwe, of the Abathembu royal council.

Napilisi Mandela, an elder in the Mandela family, said the meeting had been called to discuss delicate matters pertaining to the anti-apartheid icon.

Meanwhile: White doves were released at the Medi Clinic Heart hospital in Pretoria this morning where 94-year old Mandela remains in a critical condition.

Businessman Calvern Hugo released about 60 birds near the Celliers Street entrance, in recognition of Mandela's contribution to the country's freedom.
