The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says in view of the veld fires that have been flaring up in various areas of the Metro over recent days, residents should note that the heat, dry undergrowth and intermittent windy conditions usually experienced in December, create conditions ideal for veld fires.
Metro spokesperson, Marthie Nel says residents should therefore exercise great care not to inadvertently cause veld fires.
She says people must refrain from having braais in unauthorised or undermarcated areas, or fling cigarette butts from vehicles.
Nel says the Municipality will attend to and distinguish most fires, but if a veld fire poses no risk, it will be allowed to burn itself out, as this benefits the veld.
