A man from the small rural village of Rhodes in the North Eastern Cape was sentenced to three years in prison for threatening to kill a police officer.
Spokesperson Captain Ursula Roelofse says on the 5th of September 2019 the 38-year-old Mzwamadoda Booysen went to the house of Sergeant Elliot Ntungwana where he threatened to kill him and burn down his house and car.
Booysen was angry about the Sergeant just doing his normal patrolling duties and disrespected him with verbal threats.
Captain Roelofse says the Sergeant opened up a criminal case against Booysen which was successfully investigated.
Booysen was found guilty in the Elliot Magistrates Court in June this year and was sentenced to 36 months in prison this week.
The Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph applauded the sentence saying that police are often threatened and intimidated in small rural towns.
