A 31-year-old man appeared in court in Port Elizabeth on Friday on a charge of attempted murder for allegedly deliberately reversing his car into two teenagers, knocking them off their scooter.
The incident occurred in Van Der Kemp Street in Parkside on Tuesday and was captured on a CCTV.
The video shows a white car driving down the street and passes out of view as the teenagers, aged 15 and 17, appear in the road.
Seconds later the vehicle is seen reversing straight into them, knocking them to the ground.
The youths fled as the man chases after them for a short distance before returning to his car and driving off.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the suspect, who is a foreign national, was arrested on Friday morning at his residence in Van Rooyen Street, also in Parkside.
She said he was charged with attempted murder. It’s understood he was granted bail.
Naidu said the “reason for his actions is not yet known.”
