A man who brutally killed a farmer from East London three years ago was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday.

The 32-year-old Odwa Jim Ntlangani was sentenced to life after he accosted Jason Winrow on the evening of the 28th of July 2017 as he alighted from his bakkie to open the gate of his Donga Creek farm in the Bluewater area.

He was shot and stabbed to death before Ntlangani fled with some alcohol, a phone and Winrow's bakkie.

He was arrested in Cape Town where he led police to an area in Mitchellsplain where Winrow's vehicle was stripped.

Police Spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni says upon further investigation more charges were added including stock theft, robbery with aggravating circumstances and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Deceased farmer Jason Winrow.
