Six people have died from suspected smoke inhalation after a petrol bomb was thrown into a tavern in Zwelitsha near King Williams Town on Thursday night.
Four people, three females and one unidentified male survived the incident and are being treated at Grey's Hospital.
It is alleged that two men entered the tavern shortly after 9 pm before ordering people to get out.
They then threw something that was believed to be a petrol bomb inside, before closing the door and running out.
The bodies of the six victims were found inside after the fire was extinguished.
No arrests have been made and the motive for the attack is unknown at this stage.
Police are investigating a case of arson, murder and attempted murder.
