A 35-year-old man has been arrested for the brutal murder of an 83-year-old Eastern Cape woman who had been accused of witchcraft.
The incident happened in Majuba Village near Sterkspruit this weekend when a group of young men blamed the elderly woman for the death of another young in the village.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, says a 23-year-old relative of the deceased was also doused in paraffin but attempts to set her alight failed.
She has since been taken to a place of safety.
Kinana says the suspect was arrested on Monday and will appear in court in Sterkspruit on Wednesday.
