The search is due to resume on Thursday morning for a man swept away in a raging Elands River on a farm in the Uitenhage area late on Tuesday afternoon.
Police Warrant Officer Gerda Swart says two men, who were part of a company team building exercise, were swept down stream by strong river currents while trying to cross the river.
Swart says one of the men managed to cling to a small island in the river for several hours before being rescued.
However, the second person remains missing and the search for him will be resumed by police K9 search and rescue teams.
