A 51-year-old man who submitted fraudulent documents to get financing for two vehicles in Gqeberha has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Jerome Stephan Booysen was sentenced in the Commercial Crimes Court on Monday, three months after his arrest.
He visited Auto Traders in Gqeberha two years ago to purchase an Audi A3 and a Ford Ranger LDV and submitted the necessary documentation.
The spokesperson for the Hawks in the Eastern Cape Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says the documents were forwarded to Absa vehicle finance who approved the application.
She says both vehicles were subsequently delivered to Booysen by the dealership.
Mgolodela says Booysen did not honour a single monthly instalment which led to the bank perusing his application in an attempt to trace him.
She says the Bank then established that the documents, that led to Booysen getting a finance loan of over R468 000, were fraudulent.
The Hawks tracked down and arrested Booysen in June this year inside the Parow Court in the Western Cape where he was appearing in connection with another unrelated matter.
