Port Elizabeth anti-gang unit members and a local security company combined forces on Sunday to arrest two teenage suspects and recover a stolen firearm.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg reports that the 45-year-old complainant and his son were selling lemons in Algoa Park when they were approached by the two teenagers shortly before 9 am.
The suspects were armed with a firearm and a knife and demanded money and the keys to the complainant’s vehicle.
During a scuffle, the complainant was shot in the chest and stabbed in the head.
The suspects then fled in the victim’s white Mazda LDV but were spotted by a private security vehicle who gave chase.
They crashed the bakkie, which was still fully laden with lemons, into a boundary wall in Algoa Park.
The teenagers, aged 15 and 18 were arrested and a .38 revolver was recovered.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and the suspects will appear in court this week on a string of charges, including attempted murder, armed robbery and vehicle hijacking.
