Plettenberg Bay sea rescue volunteers were called out late on Monday afternoon when a 31-year-old man, suffering from a heart condition, complained of chest pains.
"At 2.30pm the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Plettenberg Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a man with a medical complaint at Salt River, Natures Valley who required assistance," local NSRI station commander Deon Truter said.
The 31-year-old Johannesburg man, suffering from what is believed to be a heart arrhythmia, had been participating in a team building exercise when he complained of chest pains.
The crew launched their rescue craft, the Leonard Smith, accompanied by a NSRI station doctor.
"On arrival on-scene we treated the man and the patient was stabilised, loaded onto our sea rescue craft and brought to the NSRI base in Plettenberg Bay where we were met by a MedLife private ambulance. The patient was transported to hospital in a stable condition by ambulance in the care of paramedics."
Following treatment at a local hospital the man was transported to a Knysna hospital for further treatment.
