The former boyfriend of a Knysna woman has pleaded guilty in the Western Cape High Court to murdering the woman's mother.
Twenty-year-old Kyle Maspero pleaded guilty on Wednesday to killing the 39-year old Rosemary Theron in March 2013.
Maspero attacked Theron from behind while her 18-year-old daughter, Phoenix Racing Cloud, hugged her mother.
Phoenix is serving a 15 year sentence in terms of a plea agreement in which she admitted helping her boyfriend kill her mother.
Maspero admitted in a statement that he smoked dagga and used tik on the day of the murder. He says his ex-girlfriend got into an argument with her mother after which they planned the murder.
When Phoenix approached her mother pretending to apologise for the fight, Maspero walked up to them from behind, strangling the woman with a rope.
The body was dumped near Strandfontein.
During the trial of the victim’s daughter a tale of sexual abuse, drugs and neglect emerged as the court heard how Phoenix lived with her hippie mother in abandoned buildings, caravans and a hippie farm in Knysna.
The case was postponed for sentencing.
