A 21-year old man went missing in the sea at Eastern Beach in East London while swimming with a friend on Saturday afternoon.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says all 3 of their rescue craft were at sea at the time nearby to the scene, and responded to the call for help.
He says Buffalo City Municipality lifeguards, on duty at the beach, rescued a local male believed to be 21 years old.
He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Lambinon says a search continued for the 22 year old local, but was not found.
He says police have opened an inquest docket.
It is suspected that the two men were caught in rip-currents.
