A man is missing after being swept out to sea at Eastern beach in East London.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said a second man who also got caught in rip currents on Thursday afternoon was rescued by an off-duty lifeguard.
The survivor was transported to a hospital by EMS ambulance in a stable condition.
He said several emergency services including Eastern Cape EMS Services, Buffalo City Fire and Rescue as well as police divers, joined the search which went into the early evening.
"Despite an extensive search no sign of the missing man has been found and Police divers and Police K9 Search and Rescue are continuing an ongoing search operation," Lambinon said.
The NSRI has commended the effort of the BCM pro-lifeguard for rescuing one of the men.
