The National Sea Rescue Institute said a search was conducted for a local Wildnerness man who went missing at the Kaaimans River Mouth on Saturday.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said eye-witnesses reported a man in difficulty in the surf and that bystander had launched into the water to attempt to assist.
“The sea rescue craft jet-rib Rescue 23 Alpha was towed to the scene and launched and NSRI Wilderness rescue swimmers, Eden Municipal lifeguards and Eden 911 ambulance services responded directly to the scene,” he said.
Lambinon said the bystander was able to get out of the water safely and he was not injured and an extensive sea and shoreline search was conducted for the missing male in his 30’s.
He said a SAPS dive unit, assisted by NSRI Wilderness, would continue in an ongoing search operation on Sunday.
