The Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Gqeberha is investigating the death of a man who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Bethelsdorp on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the Anti Gang unit responded to a complaint of a shooting at 11.30 am on the corners of Standford Road and Bloemendal Road.
She says when members arrived they found a black convertible Audi parked at the bus stop with the driver dead inside his car.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the driver, Sakhumzi Makhonxa (41) sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was declared dead on the scene.
She says it is alleged that Makhonxa parked his vehicle at the bus stop as he was talking on his phone when a silver Nissan XTrail approached his vehicle firing several shots from inside.
The vehicle sped off down Bloemendal Road towards Old Uitenhage road where it was abandoned.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the car used in the crime was reported stolen last month in the Mount Road policing area.
The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
Any person with information is urged to contact the police.
The motive for the murder is not yet clear.
