A well known Great Brak dairy farmer appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate Court on Monday for shooting his friend's dog.
Thirty-three-year-old Johann Janse van Rensburg was granted bail of R3 500.
He will be back in court again on the 10th of February.
It's alleged that the his son had sustained slight injuries while reportedly playing with the dog.
Police said after the incident Van Rensburg returned to the farm with a shotgun which he allegedly used to kill the animal in front of its owner.
He faces charges of malicious damage to property, unlawfully discharging a firearm in a municipal area and another charge of discharging a firearm without having a valid firearm license.
