Uitenhage police are probing a fatal shooting inside a jikeleza (local) taxi in Kwanobuhle.
Sergeant Majola Nkohli says the victim was shot dead at point-blank range while seated in the jikeleza on Tuesday evening.
He says that at around 7 pm, a green Mazda hatchback operating as a taxi with several passengers inside, stopped at Lawrence Vinqi Road to let one of the passengers out of the vehicle.
A blue Volkswagen Polo then pulled in front of them.
An unknown man armed with a firearm got out of the Polo, walked towards the hatchback and fatally shot one of the passengers that were sitting at the back next to the window.
The suspect then got back into the Polo and drove off.
The 20-year-old Mamiya Ntshanyana died at the scene.
Sergeant Nkohli says at this stage the motive for the murder is unknown, and the police are investigating all possibilities.
