Police have opened an inquest docket, following a drowning at Gwaing river mouth, 20km west of Wilderness.
The National Sea Rescue Institute says two people were swept out to sea on Sunday afternoon off an unprotected beach.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says one man managed to get out of the water, but during a search, a rescue helicopter located the body of a man floating in the surf.
He says the body of a 31-year old man from George was recovered and brought ashore.
