Police in Gqeberha have identified the victim in Friday's suspected hit-and-run along Beach Road.
Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says he was 20-year-old Jordan Markus from Makhanda.
He says Markus' body was found on the side of the road at 6 am and police are currently investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Captain Beetge says a post-mortem must still be conducted to determine if the cause of death can be positively linked to injuries sustained in a hit and run.
According to reports Markus was found without his shoes on and sustained a head injury.
Captain Beetge says any person who might have information can contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Andile Zamisa on 083 435 2521.
He says they are following up on several leads and the investigation is ongoing.
